Rachel Fortin was born in Prague, Czech Republic in 1980. At the age of seven she began to study the violin at the Music School of Prague and later at the Jan Neruda’s High School for Music. From year 2000 she studied Violin at the Prague Conservatoire, where she graduated with Alban Berg Violin Concert with the symphony orchestra in autumn 2005.

In the year 2002 she started studied composition at the Music Academy of Prague, Czech Republic at professor Milan Slavický. Her diploma project Double Concerto for Violin, Violoncello and Orchestra. Philharmonic Orchestra of Hradec Králové was played it in 2005; she played the solo violin part.

Since 2005 she lives and continues in studies of violin in Zurich, Switzerland. She has composed new pieces, which were here also performed. Fortin's latest large-scale composition and the significant success was the orchestral composition Lamento commissioned by Baden orchestra, performed in November 2007. In spring 2008 Mayuko Kamio commissioned a piece for violin and piano for her recitals in Japan. Since then this composition Dark Angel was played many times.
